SANTA CRUZ — A 77-year-old Monterey man died early Monday after he was involved a solo crash between northbound Highway 1 and Highway 17. The California Highway Patrol was called around 4:30 a.m. to the Highway 17 transition ramp, where a silver 2004 Crown Victoria had struck a tree.
